Doctors treating Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala have said that the PM will be kept under observation for two weeks. Koirala was admitted to the Martyr Ganga Lal National Heart Centre this morning after he complained of difficulty in breathing last night.

In a press conference held this evening in the hospital Koirala's physicians announced that his condition had slightly improved and could stand up but have advised complete bed rest for 10-14 days. Senior physician and chest specialist Professor JN Pande of the All India Institute of Medical Science who arrived here today and is a part of the team looking after the Prime Minister said Koirala was being kept on oxygen and liquid diet.

Koirala's illness comes at a very crucial time when political events are rapidly building up and could have potentially serious repercussions. Koirala had been advised to rest after he returned from Bangkok but was pulled into making decisions. He took part in Monday's cabinet meeting.

Speaker of the House Subash Nembang postponed the proposing of the government's planned policies and activities scheduled for today till 9 July. According to Koirala's physicians however he might not be able to make it so soon. Koirala asked to be allowed to go back to his residence this morning. Vice Prime Minister Amik Sherchan who met Koirala today said, "I found amazing will power in him. He directed us to go ahead with our work without getting worried about him."
