Koirala returns

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said India wants urgent resolution of Maoist insurgency, has encouraged United Nations' assistance in decommissioning of arms and has promised assistance in the rehabilitation of conflict victims.

Talking to reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday upon his return from New Delhi after concluding his four-day visit to India, premier Koirala said he was very satisfied with his trip to India.

Koirala said the new government is eager to bring the rebels on board and restore peace and stability in the country but the government will not act unless both sides agree to follow procedure. He added that the Indian leaders he met in Delhi were positive towards the democratic changes in Nepal and have expressed their support to the peace process.

PM Koirala also said that it is not appropriate to dissolve the parliament at present like the Maoists are demanding because the parliament was reinstated after much struggle. However, Koirala said that he took up the issue of nearly 140 Maoist detainees including senior leaders Mohan Baidya and CP Gajurel, currently being in various prisons in India, and received a positive response from the Indian government about their release.
