Excerpts of an interview with industrialist Mohan Gopal Khetan

"Businessmen like us should not talk much or get involved in politics. We are waiting to see if the government will hold talks with the Maoists and the outcome.

Historically we know that King Tribhuvan had also promised to hold elections for a constituent assembly. Many of us now realise the constituent assembly was part of an Indian grand design to turn Nepal into another Sikkim. Sending King Tribhuvan back to Kathmandu and making Matrika Prasad Koirala Nepal's premier was also part of that design. King Tribhuvan later came to know about such manoeuvring, backtracked from the proposition and appointed the rebellious KI Singh as prime minister. We must look into such past issues seriously while talking about the nation, nationality and democracy.

Regarding the allegations of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, I still doubt his credentials. The king could reappoint Deuba as prime minister and include the Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai and others in his government. If such a situation arose, parties like the Nepali Congress and the UML will be sidelined, especially if that government decided to opt for an interim constitution or hold elections for a constituent assembly."
