Attackers in police custody
Two of the attackers in a group of 50 who took part on the assault on Himalmedia last Sunday were handed over to police custory at the CDO office in Lalitpur on Friday afternnon.

"It will backfire"
The Maoists in Nepal came to power by winning an outright (constituent assembly) election, defeating discredited parliamentary opponents and helping in the overthrow of the hated monarchy. They did this by graduating from a guerilla struggle and by debating their every move to enter into a multi-party democratic system. They opened up to the media, built international bridges with civil society and solidarity organisations in south Asia, who were equally enthralled about the removal of a feudal autocratic institution - the monarchy as much as the ordinary Nepali citizen.

Protests go on
The Alliance for Press Freedom in a statement Wednesday said it continue its agitation because of sustained public threats by a Maoist union leader against Himalmedia and intimidation against APCA Group and Kantipur this week as well as the attack by the Youth Force against Ankur daily in Birganj on Tuesday.

Five media organisations came together on Tuesday to take forward a joint struggle to protect press freedom from recent serious threats.

Publishers and Editors Announce Protest
The Media Society and Editors' Alliance in a joint statement has strongly condemned the attack by Maoist workers on Himalmedia, and launched a protest program beginning with blank editorials in all member newspapers, television and radio news programs on Tuesday.

Widespread outrage
A protest rally comences from the BICC in Baneshwor against the Sunday's attack on Himalmedia. Various press freedom watchdog groups, the UNOHCHR and other human rights activists expressed outrage at the attack in which 12 staff were injured.
