NC leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba, Ram Chandra Poudel, Kul Bahadur Gurung and Suprabha Ghimire are now the candidates for the NC's PP leadership election.

Former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba?s nomination was proposed by Gopal Man Shrestha, Bimalendra Nidhi and Ramesh Rijal and seconded by Kavita Sardar, Kalpana Sob and Shambhu Hajara.

NC leaders Prakash Man Shrestha, Ram Krishna Yadav and Ajay Dwivedi proposed the nomination of party vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel. Pramila Rai, Birendra Kumar Majhi and Ganesh Bahadur Khadka seconded it.

NC chief whip Laxman Ghimire, Lalita Kingring Magar and Harshajit Lama proposed the name of general secretary K B Gurung. It was seconded by Nirmala Prasai, Hira Gurung and Lila Subba.

The nomitaion of Suprabha Ghimire was proposed by Narahari Acharya, Deep Kumar Upadhayay, and Radhe Shyam Adhikari. Leaders Purna Bahadur Khadka, Ram Saroj Yadav and Dhyan Govind Ranjit seconded the nomination.

The election is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon in the party's PP office. The results of the election will also determine who will constitute the 22-member working committee. The committee will include the elected leader and 17 elected members. The elected leader will nominate a deputy leader and other working committee members.

According to the provisions in the party's statute, a candidate needs to secure more than 50 per cent votes from the 114 NC members in the CA to get elected. In case none of the candidatets are able to secure more than 50 per cent votes, a second round of election will take place with the two candidates who secure the highest number of votes.

Nine of the 17 working committee members have already been elected unopposed. Those elected unopposed include Kiran Yadav, Amrit Lal Rajbanshi and Ajaya Chaurasiya from Madhesi quota and Kabita Sardar from Dalit quota. NC leaders Jagadish Nara Singh KC and Purushottam Basnet have also been elected unopposed.

The leaders who have been elected unopposed from three of the five development regions include Ramesh Lekhak from the Far Western, Bad Shah Kurmi from Mid-Western and Nabindra Raj Joshi Central Development Region.
