But the decision has met with sharp criticism from within UML. Speakers at the parliamentary party meeting on Friday said the government took the decision without seeking political consensus. The leaders also accused the government of focussing more on reversing the decisions of the former government than on pursuing genuine agendas. They asserted that endorsing the president's 'unconstitutional move' will not help the UML.
The parliamentary meeting had actually been called to discuss the programs and policies of the new government, the party's role in writing a new constitution and duties of the government to bring stability in the country.
Meanwhile, the Maoists also held a meeting of their parliamentary board on Friday, to discuss on the proposed party draft of the new constitution. But the main agenda of the meeting was overshadowed by criticism of the government's decision to reinstate Kawatal. The party has called it a step against civilian supremacy.
The Maoist politburo meeting has decided to wage a nationwide protest against the decision.
