A meeting of senior leaders of two big coalition partners NC and UML held on Wednesday ended inconclusively. NC wanted two ministries, ministry of water resources and of local development but UML asked them to choose only one. The PM has appointed six ministers without portfolios. The government may need to create more ministries to accommodate all political parties' representatives in the coalition but it is still undecided.
The internal dispute in MJF led to a split in the party and withdrawal of its support to the government, further weakening the newly formed government. Luckily, Bijay Gachchhedar commanded party's majority with 32 CA members who supported the government, preventing it from falling down even before the cabinet got its full shape. But this is not enough to ensure stability in the new government.
The opposition Maoists still say that they will continue to disrupt house proceedings until their demands are met. Maoists leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that they will withdraw all protest programs including house disruption if the UML agrees to address the issues raised by the party. Their demands inculde a discussion on the resolution they registered in the parliament on president's move and that army chief Rookmangud Katawal be sacked.
The Maoists secretariat meeting held on Wednesday decided to continue disrupting the house session and to launch other protest programs until all the issues raised by the party are addressed.
By revoking the decisions made by the Maoists government, the new government has already angered the Maoists. The new government is all set to endorse th president's move, but after Tuesday meeting the UML decided to postpone the process until the Maoists allow house proceeding.
