Aryal(seated, third from right in picture) got the award for three stories she wrote in Nepali Times on the Melamchi project, Nepal's local government and the constituent assembly elections.

Of the 250 applicants, 25 finalists were chosen under the category of Governance, Regional Integration, Infrastructure and Environment. Young journalists from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Thailand, The Philippines, Nepal, Myanmar, India among the 25 finalists. Journalists from India, Nepal, Indonesia, The Philippines took home awards in these categories.

The panel of judges was composed of Anthony Rowley, Tokyo correspondent of The Business Times and field editor for Oxford Analytica; Yoshio Murakami, international affairs adviser to The Asahi Shimbun; Sri Lankan journalist Suvendrini Kakuchi, Panos South Asia country representative; and Monzurul Huq, a Bangladeshi journalist who is the Tokyo correspondent of the Daily Star and Prothom Alo, two leading national dailies in Bangladesh.
